How to Set Up Internet Sharing in Windows Vista Without a Router

Internet Sharing Vista

In windows vista it is relatively easy to set up a shared Internet connection without a router and two computers. You only need a few basic things. First thing being an active Internet connection either dial up or broadband (cable, dsl or satellite).

The computer that connects to the Internet will be the server or slave computer meaning for other computers to connect you using this computer it must remain on or be turned on when needed. This computer should be fairly speedy as in processor capabilities and have good size memory installed to keep it from lagging under processes. A computer from 1.8ghz with 1.5 gigs of memory and above should be sufficient for this task.

For a wired connection with dial up you will need a 56k modem for Internet access and a Ethernet jack in the back of the computer. On your computer click start, control panel, network and Internet, network sharing center and then manage network connections. Right click on your dial up connection and select properties and then click the tab sharing. check allow other net work users to connect through this computers Internet connection. In the drop down under it select your Ethernet card usually local "Internet connection" and then click settings tab. Make sure all boxes are checked under the setting tab and click OK.

Next all you need to do is plug your server/slave computer into the computer that will be sharing the connection in together by a crossover Ethernet cable. A crossover cable is a special cable locally available designed for PC sharing. A normal Ethernet cable will not work for this task. A crossover cable is usually yellow and says crossover on the wire casing. Reboot both machines and connect the server to the net by dial up and your in business.

For a wireless connection between the two machines the set up is very simular but with a few different steps. For this you will need a dial up or broadband connection on the server/slave computer along with a wireless Ethernet card installed in a PCI or USB slot. Keep in mind the computer that will be sharing the connection will have to have a wireless Ethernet card installed to or built in such as a laptop.

Assuming everything is set and installed you need to do these steps. Click start, control panel, network and Internet, network sharing center and then manage network connections. If it is a dial up connection the set up is the same as above.

Right click on your dial up connection and select properties and then click the tab sharing. check allow other net work users to connect through this computers Internet connection. In the drop down under it select your wireless Ethernet card usually "Wireless Network Connection" and then click settings tab. Make sure all boxes are checked under the setting tab and click OK.

Now go to network and sharing screen again and select set up connection or network and select set up wireless or hoc (computer-to-computer) network. Select a network name you can name it virtually anything the most common is "home". Next select the security type Open means you wont need a password on the computer sharing the connection or WAP Personal will require a security key you make to keep unwanted people in range from using your connection. Next click save network and close to finish this set up. To make the network function you simply have to dial up like you would for the server/slave computer then on the bottom right corner of the screen next to the volume tab click connect to and right click connect to a network and select the name of the network you made earlier such as home. Once selected it should stay connected waiting for users to connect. take the second computer and search for a local WIFI connection and it should find "home" click connect and your online.

Connecting a broadband connection to a wireless card is fairly simple as you need to open the network and sharing screen once again. right click on your wireless card and click on the sharing tab and check all boxes andclose. While holding down the control key click once one the wireless card and once on the local Internet connection so both are highlighted and then right click and select bridge connections. Once the bridge has been made All you have to do is set up a wireless or hoc (computer-to-computer) network. go to network and sharing screen again and select set up connection or network and select set up wireless or hoc (computer-to-computer) network. To do this select a network name you can name it virtually anything the most common is "home". Next select the security type Open means you wont need a password on the computer sharing the connection or WAP Personal will require a security key you make to keep unwanted people in range from using your connection. Next click save network and close to finish this set up.
To make the network function you simply have to take the second computer and search for a local WIFI connection and it should find "home" click connect and your online.

Internet and the Computer - Good and Bad

Internet for Computer

Overall, across the country computers are becoming much more a part of everyone's life. When I went to college you went to school and then had to go to a computer lab to do your homework. Several families had a computer in their home, but having the internet on any computer was not as common. Then of course, having a laptop was absolutely unheard of. Times have changed and now the internet and computers are available everywhere you turn. Most college students have their own laptop and can sit and work on their work or access their class information while sitting in class.
For many of us we love having this type of access. We love that we can access the internet from our phones or from anywhere we go. There are a million reasons to think that the computers, internet and access to the world at our fingertips is an amazing thing. It seems that with all great things there can be negatives. Child pornography has become much more prevalent due to the access to the internet. Whether you live in Los Angeles or live in Philadelphia it is important to recognize the importance of protecting your own children and those around you. Not only is it important to protect your own children, but if you come across anything on the internet it is important to report it.
You might not know where to turn for help if you find child pornography but it is important to look to lawyers that are specialized in the area that you live. If you live in Philadelphia you will want to get a Philadelphia child pornography lawyer. They are aware of the laws in your state and can help you make a difference.

How to Become a Computer Dealer

Do you want to learn how to become a computer dealer in the small business space?
If so, you should understand an important reality --  most technology professionals that start small companies of their own don't survive when they label themselves as "computer dealers."
Why not?  First of all, when you're selling a commodity - in this case, a computer - you're going to attract clients that are looking for "low, low prices," and not anything particularly unique in the way of services.
You'll run into some serious problems no matter what you do when you're focusing on just a product sale.  If you don't offer "low, low prices, you'll be priced out by competitors that do and make no sales.  If you do offer prices that are low enough to attract the attention of small business owners, you'll run yourself right out of business.  Because as a small dealer (or any dealer), you're already facing very low profit margins on computers in the small business space. And when your prices are barely above what it costs you to get the computers in the first place, you'd have to sell a whole lot of computers to come out ahead ... probably more than you as a one- or two-person operation could possibly sell.
What's the answer to learning how to become a computer dealer successfully?  First, you need to focus on services that will add value to your overall offering.  These services will include comprehensive small business solutions and on-going maintenance for your client's technology assets, a business model supported by on-going service agreements that provide tangible benefits to your small business clients and on-going revenue.  Go way beyond the product sale and offer something that will set you apart from other commodities brokers and show that you really are unique in what you do.
The following 3 tips can help you learn how to be a computer dealer profitably in the small business arena.
  1. Build Real Relationships.  Developing a bond and a real relationship with your clients is critical to having a successful computer business.  Your relationships are your assets.  Success is not about the size of your customer list or about the revenue you get.  It's about the longevity and the long-term relationships you build with your customers.  Your best clients could bring you a lifetime value well in the six-figure net profit range, so really getting to know small business owners is worth your time and will pay off in the long run. Remember, the relationship isn't just about selling a box. Not even close.
  2. Manage Customer and Client Expectations.  If you are running a small computer business, you'll probably be handling sales initially, so you won't have to worry that the salesperson talking to your clients will change, causing you to have to start all over again.  When you avoid impersonal sales tactics and build personal relationships with your customers, you can much better manage the expectations of your potential long-term clients from the very beginning of the sales process.  You won't have to worry that a slick, hyper-aggressive impersonal salesperson is going to try to make a quick sale by misrepresenting the actual capabilities of your company.
  3. Personally Train Your Sales Staff.  As you learn how to become a computer dealer offering real value-added services to small businesses and not just products, you have to watch how you grow your business with well-trained staff.  When your business gets some long-term clients and you find you need to hire additional staff members to help manage the sales side, make sure you train them properly so they are learning the tactics consistent with your best practices and ethics, so they represent your company well.
In this brief article, we talked about some critical ways to go beyond selling products and add real value with small business solutions for your clients. Find out more about how to become a computer dealer and attract steady, high-paying clients now at http://www.BecomeAComputerDealer.com
